我地SPD4459 The Expendables介紹左好多地方，今次我地要介紹一個皇后像廣場附近地方，就係和平紀念碑。相信大家如果搭車或者行路經過干諾道中，都會發現一個好大的草地，草地中有一個碑。個碑就係充滿歷史價值的和平紀念碑!

SPD4459 The Expendables has introduce a lot of places in Central and Western District. This time we are going to introduce a place that is near to Statue Square, it is The Cenotaph. I believe if you take buses or walk beside the Connaught Road Central, you will discover a place that is a big grass land and a stele located in the middle.

和平紀念碑於一九二三年五月二十四日由當時的香港總督司徒拔爵士揭幕，是香港首座為紀念第一次世界大戰的死難者而正式建造的紀念碑。SPD4459 The Expendables

和平紀念碑最初只刻有“The Glorious Dead”的字樣和第一次世界大戰的年份（即「1914-1918」），後來再刻上「1939-1945」的年份，以悼念第二次世界大戰的死難者。一九八○年代和平紀念碑側面再刻上「英魂不朽　浩氣長存」八個中文字，對應 “The Glorious Dead”三個英文字，清楚表示和平紀念碑為紀念所有死難者，特別是為港捐軀的陣亡將士而建。香港特別行政區政府及其他相關團體每年仍會在和平紀念碑舉行悼念活動。不得不提,和平紀念碑是香港其中一個法定古蹟。SPD4459 The ExpendablesSPD4459 The Expendables

The Cenotaph was unveiled on 24 May 1923 by the then Governor Sir Edward Stubbs. It is the earliest memorial formally constructed to commemorate the dead of the First World War in Hong Kong.SPD4459 The Expendables

The Cenotaph was initially inscribed with the words “The Glorious Dead” and the years of the First World War, i.e. “1914-1918”. The years “1939-1945” were subsequently added to honour victims of the Second World War. In the 1980s, eight Chinese characters “英魂不朽 浩氣長存” ( meaning “May their martyred souls be immortal, and their noble spirits endure”) were carved on one side of the Cenotaph corresponding to the inscription “The Glorious Dead” to make it clear that the Cenotaph commemorates all who fell, especially those who fell in the defence of Hong Kong. Commemorative activities are still held by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and other relevant associations at the Cenotaph every year.In addition, The Cenotaph is one of the Declared Monuments in Hong Kong. SPD4459 The Expendables SPD4459 The Expendables
